Can game consoles be mounted vertically?Updated 5 hours ago

Yes — with rare exceptions. The only major console that cannot play discs vertically is the Original Xbox One. If you mount an OG Xbox One vertically, you’ll need to use downloaded content instead of physical discs.

For every other modern console, vertical mounting is completely safe when done correctly. Many manufacturers — including Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo — design their consoles to work both horizontally and vertically.

Here’s why it’s safe with HIDEit:

  • Better airflow: Our open steel designs allow hot air to rise and dissipate more efficiently than closed cabinets.

  • No blocked vents: Each mount is designed for unobstructed airflow based on the device’s cooling layout.

  • Tested in real-world conditions: We’ve tested consoles like the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and more under normal play conditions with no increase in heat compared to horizontal placement.

  • Thousands of successful installs: From homes to hospitals, customers have safely used HIDEit mounts for over a decade without device damage.

Bottom line: If your console is designed to stand vertically, you can mount it vertically — and with HIDEit, you’ll often improve airflow compared to traditional media cabinets.
